When The Baby Comes - A Spoken Word Poem by Kamal Imani

When the baby comes
They'll be no more sleeping
you'll be tired as a mule
and far from having swag, being lit and looking cool

when at 3 in the morning pass the crib you're creeping
You'll put your kama sutra on hold
Ikea and babies R us will be your weekend
you won't be thinking about relations or even cheating

When the baby comes
When the baby comes
You didn't consider,
that your fat ass friends,
Marlene, Rushumba and Chandelier could run
until you asked for a babysitter

You're husband will look like a free slave as people
think he working at the rite aid
every time the little brat
drops it's bobo at 4 in the morning yo
Dads right back to rite aid when the pampers are low
Now woman, you know that ain't right! Sending that man to the store

at 6 in the morning for those baby wipes.

It's your turn to sleep, you think your burden got lighter
Can you do me a favor, can you change her diaper?

we're doing the matrix dance as we sneak pass the crib
and I'm wondering who'se this little chucky who
took over where I live?
screaming and yellin like he a boss
even got on gold chains trying to floss
I'm getting all fat, no time for sleep, some cookie,to work out
or run
So whatever you wanna do, you better get it in
before the baby comes.
