The latest attempt to repeal Obamacare has failed after a dramatic night in the US Senate.
Senator John McCain of Arizona, who just this week returned to the Senate after receiving a diagnosis of brain cancer, cast the decisive vote to defeat the proposal. He joined two other Republicans, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, on the decision. The final vote in the Senate was 49-51. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the floor after the vote. The vote was a major setback for Republicans who have spent seven years vowing to repeal and replace Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
