A top political consultant has revealed that President Trump had a second, hour-long private discussion with President Vladimir Putin during the recent G20 summit in Germany.
Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group, disclosed the bombshell to Charlie Rose, telling him that the previously undisclosed, follow-up talk between the two leaders occurred in the evening, the same day as their highly publicized first meeting which lasted for more than two hours.
As Secretary of State Rex Tillerson explained at the time, the initial conversation went past its original 30-minute time slot because the group “had so much to talk about.”
In addition to concerns over Russia’s involvement in the U.S. election--which Putin reportedly denied--the two leaders are said to have talked about cybersecurity, terrorism, and Syria.
Overall, Bremmer referred to Putin as Trump’s “best personal relationship.”
He went on to tell Rose that “Never in my life as a political scientist have I seen two countries — major countries — with a constellation of national interests that are as dissonant, while the two leaders seem to be doing everything possible to make nice nice and be close to each other.”
While Bremmer conceded that strategy may be a factor in the U.S. president’s approach to Putin, he also indicated that Trump’s true motivations are as yet unknown but will likely be learned “through leaks or through...[special counsel Robert Mueller’s] investigation.”
