SHENZHEN, CHINA — Two people were killed and nine more injured after a knifeman rampaged through a Walmart in China Sunday night.

The Hong Kong Standard reports that 30-year-old Jiang Shengjun initially started a fire on the third floor of the store in Shenzhen. He then made his way down to the second floor, where he hacked at shoppers with a meat cleaver around 9 p.m.

The violent attack left a trail of blood and bodies, and sent frightened customers running out of the store.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and subdued Jiang, who is believed to be unemployed and mentally ill.

Jiang was a former migrant worker from Chongqing, but lost contact with his family in September 2015.
