The CEO of JPMorgan Chase has blasted the political environment in the U.S., calling it “almost an embarrassment being an American citizen traveling around the world,” reports Business Insider.
CNBC notes that during an earnings call Friday, Jamie Dimon began by saying, “Since the Great Recession, which is now 8 years old, we've been growing at 1.5 to 2 percent in spite of stupidity and political gridlock. Because the American business sector is powerful and strong, and is going to grow regardless…”
He added, “...what I'm saying is it would be much stronger growth had we made intelligent decisions and were there not gridlock.”
Dimon later continued, “We have become one of the most bureaucratic, confusing, litigious societies on the planet. It’s almost an embarrassment being an American citizen traveling around the world and listening to the stupid s**t we have to deal with in this country. And you know, at one point, we all have to get our act together, or we won’t do what we’re supposed to [do] for the average American.”
Dimon has previously been outspoken about the political and social issues facing America.
But, according to Fortune magazine, he decided against taking a more hands-on approach to policy when he reportedly declined the opportunity to be the Trump administration’s Treasury Secretary.
However, the reported Democrat has nevertheless expressed support for President Trump, telling investors in May, “I believe he's the pilot flying our airplane….I would try to help any president of the United States because I'm a patriot….it does not mean we agree with all the policies that the administration comes up with.”
