Was Jeremy Corbyn caught NODDING OFF during King Felipe’s speech?
JEREMY CORBYN seemed less than enthused when the King of Spain addressed the House of Parliament from the Royal Gallery today. The Labour leader was part of a large host of parliamentarians welcoming the Spanish monarch in the heart of British democracy. King Felipe VI spoke to the room in a historic speech as part of his three day state visit to the UK with his wife Queen Letizia.Jeremy Corbyn seemingly dropped his head down slightly for a few seconds to rest his eyes as Commons Speaker John Bercow welcomed the King. One person took to Twitter to respond, saying: “Will Jeremy curtsy or kneel before King Felipe? Blimey, it looks like [Theresa May] just plopped in his pocket and he’s just found out.” The Prime Minister was visibly more invested in the milestone speech, as the King outlines the historic relationship Britain holds with Spain.The thundering applause and standing ovation at the end of the speech however were enough for the Labour leader to join in wide awake. Several social media users have also addressed the obvious elephant in the room with Mrs May resentfully sitting in silence next to Mr Corbyn.One person tweeted: “It’s like watching your divorced parents begrudgingly sit next to each other at your graduation. Stunning”. While another added: “They look like a couple who have been married for 40 years but only happily for 2 of them!” “In fairness, I wouldn’t talk to him either,” another person concluded. The pair however briefly engaged in some pleasantries before the proceedings started and even shared a laugh. Earlier today some MPs threatened to walk out of the speech if the King brought up the disputed issue of Spanish sovereignty over the island of Gibraltar.But the Iberian monarch skirted over the topic, only briefly touching on the subject before returning to the close ties between the UK and Spain. He said: “The UK and Spain have a long shared history during which we have stood shoulder to shoulder.“We have done so as friends, partners and allies, whether facing international challenges together or promoting closer relationships.King Felipe and Queen Letizia are residing in Buckingham Palace during the duration of their state visit.They are expected to attend a grand ballroom banquet at the palace this evening.. 00FastNews.
