The Seattle City Council unanimously approved to impose an income tax on wealthy residents. The new plan adds a 2.25 percent tax on residents who earn $250,000 or more per year. The Council predicts that the measure will bring in around $140 million each year. Opponents said the tax violates state law, while advocates championed that it would make tax laws fairer.
