Mexico had more possession and more chances – and Marco Fabian’s swerving 89th minute goal was pretty spectacular, but the team’s defensive frailties were ruthlessly exploited by Joachim Loew’s young experimental team.

Mexico now heads to Moscow to play Portugal in the third-place match.
