The Goodwin Fire in Yavapai County, Arizona, reached 25,000 acres on June 29, according to Yavapai County Emergency Management.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency in Yavapai County on Wednesday, June 28, after the fast moving fire caused the entire town of Mayer to evacuate.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office lifted evacuation orders for Mayer, but said the town will only be accessible from the south due to road closures in place.
Even though the fire remains one percent contained, Todd Abel, Southwest Area Incident Management Team operations section chief, expressed confidence in firefighters’ ability to contain the fire at a press conference in Prescott on Thursday morning. Credit: Instagram/Mark Feeney via Storyful
