Joy Behar jokingly expressed sympathy for first lady Melania Trump over having to have had sex with President Trump “at least once.”
The couple have an 11-year-old son, Barron.
On Tuesday, 'The View' co-host appeared on Seth Meyers’ NBC talk show, and, after they talked about her relationship with the president, Meyers asked her what she thinks about Mrs. Trump.
Behar said, “I feel sorry for her. She had to sleep with him once. At least once, she did, right?”
She added, “And then when she was in New York and we had to pay a million dollars a day to keep her here just because she doesn’t want to sleep with him, we had to pay for that. I didn’t like that.”
There has been intense speculation about the state of the first couple’s marriage; in March, US Weekly reported, based on inside sources, that Mrs. Trump is unhappy with her life and tries to keep her distance from her husband.
The following month, Vanity Fair published a profile which stated that “an uneasy picture has emerged of their marital union.”
It adds that “despite assurances from her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, that Melania is embracing the role of First Lady, most signs point to a distinct lack of interest.”
Nevertheless, Mrs. Trump appears to be taking a more active role; she accompanied the president on his first trip abroad last month and, a couple weeks ago, she tweeted a photo from the White House with the message, “Looking forward to the memories we'll make in our new home! #Movingday.”
