Corporator of J P Nagar ward, Mamatha and her husband claimed a banyan tree in the premises of a government land near Muthyalamma temple to be theirs and illegally destroyed the tree by cutting it down. In the process, a cobra which was being worshiped by devotees and had lived in the tree trunk for the last 20 years got cut down into three pieces. The miscreants who got scared that the cobra might cause bad luck if it lived any longer, burnt it alive inhumanely..
