Burmese in New Delhi celebrated the veteran writer Ludu Daw Amar's 91st birthday on November 30, 2006 at a Buddhist monastery called 8888. The birthday of Amay Mar (Mother Mar) as the Burmese call her was held in Mandalay, Burma also but the military regime's attempts at monitoring and disturbing the celebrations thwarted guests from attending her birthday party unlike previous years.
