A forest fire in central Portugal broke out this past Saturday, killing 60 people. According to Jorge Gomez, the secretary of state for internal administration, at least half of the victims died in their vehicles as the raging fire engulfed the roads. The initial cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but officials think it was started by a lightning strike during a dry thunderstorm. Prime Minister Antonio Costa spoke out on the horrific incident, calling it "the biggest tragedy of human life that we have known in years."
