The driver of a semi truck was left in critical condition after his vehicle exploded into flames on the I-75 in Florida, following a collision on Friday evening, June 9.
The truck’s fuel tank exploded after it crashed into a temporary guard rail, sending the truck, it’s driver and cargo of airport luggage carousels, over 300 feet across the highway.
Pasco County Fire Rescue services closed the section of highway as they attended the fire. Eddy Quintana Perez of Cape Coral was identified of the driver of the truck. Local news outlets reported that he was in critical condition and had suffered severe burns on 40 percent of his body.
Devon Whitaker filmed the moment of the dramatic explosion on the northbound side of the I-75, shortly before the turn off for Highway 52.
He told Storyful he had seen the truck driver drifting off the road twice before the collision and started filming. “It was insane, explosion after explosion for a while after it happened”.
