The severe weather forecast for northern NSW on June 9 comes with a silver lining, according to rescuers who are helping a beached humpback whale in Sawtell.
A juvenile whale became stranded at a beach on the northern New South Wales coast on Friday, June 9. Marine rescuers were at Sawtell Beach attempting to rescue the whale, which was found stranded at about 7 am, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Liv Crowley, who filmed this footage, said kayaking and surf teams are providing the animal with support. The storm surge, which has come with flood warnings, will help keep the whale wet, while efforts are being made to push it back out to sea. Crowley said she could also see a number of whale pods about a kilometre out from the site.
The ABC "reported’:http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-09/whale-stranded-on-sawtell-beach/8603670 that the tide was going out, making it difficult for the young whale to breathe.
