Some of these days – Climax Jazz Band 1996
One of the highlights in my musical life was during the last trip with the Climax Jazz Band to Japan. We were invited to play a concert for the Shinji Shumeikai Organisation. This concert series was held at a large marble square where up to 10.000 people per concert would be bussed in. At the site was a large carillon tower and the concert was billed as a carillon concert. The very jazz oriented carillon player was Dr. Jack Maassen, the director of the Dutch Carillon School. An American jazz singer, Ruby Wilson, was featured with our band and a member of the Disney music staff from Florida, Randy Wilson played piano.
The members in our band were former Dutchman Pieter Meijers, who now lives in California and organized the event. Our Toronto guys were Jack Vincken banjo, Jamie Aug drums, Chris Daniels bass, Len Gosling trombone and me, Bob Erwig on cornet.
All together it was an experience we’ll never forget.
