Half Stories found its next unique story in the heart of Rishikesh -- in Mukesh Dhiman workshop. A carpenter by profession, Mukesh went on to follow his passion for music and learned the art of making a didgeridoo -- which is an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument.
With a family of four depending on his skill as a source of income, Mukeshji wants to be able to provide for his family and continue doing what he loves the most. Usually, it takes him almost 8 days to make one didgeridoo. But with a set of better tools, he can reduce his effort to just a day's work. With the money collected -- Rs 9000, we managed to get him tools like a grinder, cutter, router, planner and a drill machine. When we gave them the set of tools, there was a plethora of emotions -- happiness, curiosity, anxiety, nervousness excitement! Mukeshji immediately asked his sons to put holy 'dhaaga' on the tools and do a small ritual before they begin to use it. Once that was done, they used the tool for a task that takes almost 5 hours, and in a matter of 10 minutes, they were done.
