Tiger Woods, whose dominance in golf gave way several years ago to missteps
and misfortune away from the course, was charged with driving under the influence early Monday.

Woods’s public image was clean until the fall of 2009, when he was cited with careless driving
after he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and tree outside his home in late November.
Woods, 41, who lives in Jupiter and owns a restaurant there, has won 14 major championships
and has more than $100 million in career earnings from golf competitions alone.
He was booked at 7:18 a.m. and released at 10:50 a.m., according to Palm Beach County jail records.
But he had three titles among nine top-10 finishes in 2012, and the following year, Woods won five tournaments, returned to No.
He finished 15th out of 17 golfers at the unofficial Hero World Challenge, then failed to make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
He withdrew from the Dubai Desert Classic in February because of back spasms after shooting an opening-round 77 and has not played since.
In April, he had a fourth back operation, which was expected to keep him off the course for six months.
With 79 PGA Tour titles, Woods passed Jack Nicklaus for second on the career list
