The U.S. box office had its worst Memorial Day weekend in nearly 20 years. According to Variety, the long holiday weekend only brought in a total of $172.3 million. The worst weekend is considered to be Memorial Day weekend 1999, which only stacked up $142.5 million and couldn’t be saved by the anticipated opening of ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.’ The biggest film at the box office this weekend was ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ which earned $62.2 million at the box office.
