It's expected to be a rough year for hurricanes if you live in or around the Atlantic Basin, at least according to the federal government. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting 11 to 17 tropical storms, with two to four becoming major hurricanes between June 1 and November 30. The Weather Channel, however, is expecting an average season, with only 12 tropical storms, half of which are then expected to reach hurricane level. April saw tropical storm Arlene, the first Atlantic storm of the season, briefly form before spinning itself out.
