During its graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 23, Bowie State University honored a student killed last weekend. Police are investigating the death of Richard Collins III as a hate crime.

The school confirmed Collins’ degree to his family, seen in the first video. A moment of silence was held for Collins during the ceremony, and a chair was set aside with his robe to remember him. The moment of silence can be seen in the second video. Collins had been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army two days before his death on Saturday.

Police believe Sean Urbanski, 22, who is white, stabbed Collins, who is black, in an unprovoked attack.
