Social media has the ability to bring us together, but it can also isolate us. A study commissioned by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) in the U.K. confirms the latter. The RSPH found that young people were most likely to associate Instagram with negative attributes and low self-esteem, resulting in poor body image and lack of sleep. Snapchat was a close second. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube rounded out the top five. The survey polled almost 1,500 Britons aged 14 to 24. Instagram's head of policy Michelle Napchan told CNBC that they have and always will be striving to keep the platform a "safe and supportive place."
