Wildfire Grows to 1,000 Acres in North Port

A wildfire that started Saturday, May 13, in North Port, Florida, quickly grew to 1,000 acres. This footage was posted by Patrick M. Mahoney, the public information officer for the Florida Forest Service.

WTSP reported the wildfire caused Interstate 75 lane closures from mile marker 170 (Kings Highway) to 179 (Toledo Blade Boulevard). The fire jumped the highway and was moving north.

Multiple agencies have responded to contain the fire, and Mahoney tweeted strong winds have fueled the blaze.
