A storm system in the Pacific brought unseasonably heavy rain to Coquimbo, Chile, on Thursday, May 11.
This footage shows Los Clarines, a street in Coquimbo completely flooded by rainwater.
AccuWeather reported that the storm was expected to deliver torrential rain to Chile’s central coastal region and trigger heavy snowfall further inland through the weekend.
Chile’s National Emergency Office declared the Coquimbo region to be under a rainfall Yellow Alert, along with Atacama, Valparaiso, Metropolitana and O’Higgins. More than 13,000 people were without power and a wall at the Recoleta reservoir was damaged on Friday, May 12, causing further flooding.
