A walk-on athlete from Hanceville, Alabama, is celebrating a year free from tuition fees after he received a full football athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama, May 11.

In a video shared to the Twitter account of fellow University of Alabama student Jay Mitchell, budding football star Brontae Harris can be seen accepting a “full scholarship” through the window of a car.

According to the man giving him the good news, food, housing and a stipend will be included in the scholarship. The term ‘walk-on’ is regularly used in American college athletics to describe an athlete who joined a team without being actively recruited or scouted.

“So proud of this kid. Showed up everyday – no complaints, no excuses, just work! Former walk-on freshman,” Mitchell wrote on Twitter.

Mitchell’s video was shared on May 11 and had received 99 retweets and 188 likes at the time of writing.
