A Yell County, Arkansas, sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Thursday morning during a traffic stop in Dardanelle. Police escorted the body of Lt Kevin Mainhart to the state crime lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.

Mainhart initiated the traffic stop of a vehicle he believed was connected to a disturbance call. The suspect fled to a house, where he held a hostage in a stand-off with police until mid-afternoon, local media reported. The bodies of two women were also found at that location.

The suspect, James Bowden, was arrested and is expected to be charged in the three deaths. The hostage was released unharmed.
