A 23-year-old woman was found alive in Montana’s Great Bear Wilderness on Wednesday, May 10, after being reported missing the previous Thursday, police confirmed.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office said Madeline Connelly was found uninjured about five miles from her vehicle. This footage shows crews searching the area before she was found, and Connelly being winched aboard a Two Bear Air Rescue helicopter, which flew her to be medically assessed in West Glacier. Connelly was reunited with her parents in West Glacier, the sheriff’s office said.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office wrote that after becoming lost, Connelly “wandered for several days attempting to find her way out, at times pushing farther into the wilderness.” Having left her vehicle with nothing, she went without food for several days and drank water from creeks, the statement said.
