Tips for better Screen Mirroring performance from your Mac to a Smart TV from Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic and Philips

Screen Mirroring from your Mac to your Smart TV is quite a heavy job for your home network. Lots of data is being sent from your Mac to your TV and it needs to be there on time. So, this is what you can do to increase the performance of your home network:

I. Restart your router occasionally

Restart your router. Just take out the power plug, wait 10 seconds and put it back in. This resets your router and will make your home network faster and more stable. Why this works? Routers are in essence little computers, with software. From time to time, Software has small memory leaks and some processes will eventually stop working correctly over time. That’s why it’s always a good idea to reset your router once in a while. Our recommendation: once a week.

II. 2.4Ghz and/or 5Ghz Wifi Networking

Put your Mac and your TV on the same router channel. Some dual band routers have both a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz wireless network. For the best performance, put your Mac and your TV on the same network. Preferably the 5Ghz network. Make sure you don’t put the Mac on the 5Ghz network and the TV on 2.4Ghz, because this will negatively impact the performance of screen mirroring.

III. Use an AC or N router

Use an AC or N router. Newer routers support Wi-Fi AC and N. Older routers might only have Wifi B and/or G. B and G aren’t really up to scratch anymore for modern networking tasks, so go for an AC or N router. If your router supports AC and N, also make sure that your router is set to use either the Wi-Fi N or Wi-Fi AC networking.
