Several thousand people gathered in the center of Paris on May 8 to protest against the election of Emmanuel Macron as French president.
The protest gathered leftists and representatives from France’s labor unions, though, according to local press reports, the major unions did not sanction participation at an official level.
The marchers were gathered under the banner of the “Front Social,” which had rejected the choice between Macron and his right-wing rival Marine Le Pen.
For labor unions, Macron is synonymous with strongly opposed labor law reforms that he pushed during his time in the government of Francois Hollande.
