Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx) is an apparently corrupt Las Vegas cop. After stealing a shipment of cocaine to a drug dealer named Rubino (Dermot Mulroney), the mafioso counterattacks kidnapping Thomas (Octavius J. Johnson), the son of Vincent. In return, they demand as a rescue the cargo of cocaine they stole. Downs will try to rescue his son in the course of a night, without being trapped by Internal Affairs. And that is, Jennifer Bryant (Michelle Monaghan), a stubborn Internal Affairs investigator (Michelle Monaghan), is investigating him, and Downs will have to decide which side is finally on.
