Wildfire Smoke Fills Skies Above Gangneung

More than 2,500 residents of Gangneung, a city in eastern South Korea, were forced to evacuate on Saturday, May 6, due to a spreading forest fire.

According to reports from Arirang and Yonhap, the fire grew quickly due to strong winds and dry air, and had burned more than 300 thousand hectares of land near the city. Over 500 firefighters were dispatched to combat the blaze and at least 30 homes were damaged in the fire.
