Severe storms brought heavy rains and damaging straight-line winds to Virginia Beach, Virginia, early Friday, May 5, leaving several areas under water and around 2,000 people without power for over an hour, according to local reports.
A WAVY report said businesses and homes were damaged and trees came down as the winds swept through. The Virginia Beach oceanfront area saw significant damage.
The video here shows cars driving through floodwaters at the corner of Old Forge Road and South Plaza Trail in Virginia Beach. It was shared by a Facebook page called ‘Stop the Flooding NOW,’ which is dedicated to sharing images of flooding in the area and calls on local authorities to provide adequate flood protections.
