BILLERICA, MASSACHUSETTS — Three people were killed and nine were injured after a SUV suddenly accelerated inside an auto auction house in Massachusetts before crashing into a wall on Wednesday morning.

The crash took place at the Lynnway Auto Auction in Billerica. A male employee in his 70s was behind the wheel of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee that plowed through the crowd.

“I heard a screeching of tires, and, I believe, a Jeep Cherokee went flying by me. In avoiding the cars, whoever was driving this vehicle, hit several people,” auto auction employee Woody Tuttle told WCVB-TV.

Two women and one man were killed in the accident. One of the nine injured sustained life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said preliminary information suggests the crash was an accident.
