Francis Magalona, one of the country’s best rappers, incorporated the issues of nationalism and inequality in his songs and was able to create a new style of rap in the Philippines. In his song ‘Mga Kababayan Ko’, he stresses that we should be proud of our Filipino heritage. His other song ‘Kaleidoscope World’ shows us that though we are very different from each other, we are all given equal rights. Though there weren’t many rappers during his time, he has given rap in the Philippines a new meaning. What made Francis M. and his music special was becoming the counterpart of “American Rap” during his time.
