A number of republican politicians and major donors have expressed concern about what the 2018 midterm elections will hold, and some say President Trump’s performance is one of the threats to a favorable outcome.
According to Politico, specific reasons cited by the concerned vary and include the Trump administration’s lack of successful legislation and the president’s poor approval ratings.
Thus far, quick and significant changes promised by Trump, including the repeal of Obamacare and tax reform have been either delayed or killed outright through congressional failure, a lack of preparedness, and unsuccessful negotiation.
While those shortcomings have not dampened support among his voters, others seem increasingly dismayed by the president’s performance.
Based on a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, “The president’s approval rating stands at 42 percent, the lowest recorded at this stage of a presidency dating to Dwight Eisenhower.”
Meanwhile, as the president’s 100-day landmark approaches, those in the White House boast that the early days of the administration have been quite successful.
Among them is press secretary Sean Spicer who, during Wednesday’s press briefing said, “what you’ve seen out of this White House is a very robust agenda of activity.”
