Anti-Government Protests Continue Despite the Rain in Belgrade

Despite harsh weather conditions, thousands of protesters took to the streets in Belgrade in Serbia on April 20 as part of ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

The demonstrations in Serbia have been running for over two weeks against what protesters call the “dictatorship” of President-elect Aleksandar Vucic.

Vucic, who is currently prime minister, was elected president with 55 percent of the vote and is expected to continue the country’s path towards EU integration while maintaining close ties to Russia. Although the office of president is largely a ceremonial role, demonstrators are concerned he will maintain control over government through his Serbian Progressive Party.
