This CCTV-Tibet TV co-production tells about a young Chinese woman who is a doctor in the PLA. She travels with the army's road-building teams to construct the Qinghai-Tibet road in the 1950s. In the end, although most of her family are killed from various natural disasters, she remains in Tibet, living as a Tibetan. This extract is from Episode 1, and is the first time we see the Chinese soldiers confronted by the horrors of the Tibetan landscape, and witness their courage, sacrifice and suffering on their journey to Lhasa.
