First trailer released for 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

The wait was finally over on Friday (April 14) for Star Wars fans, when the first trailer was released for the latest "Star Wars" film "Star Wars: The Last Jedi".

The trailer, running at just over two minutes, shows fans a glimpse of the eighth installment of the world famous franchise.

It features Daisy Ridley as the scavenger Rey, John Boyega as former stormtrooper Finn and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, a fighter pilot who fought for The Resistance in the previous film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

The dark side's Kylo Ren also appears in the form of Adam Drive. The famous spaceship, the Millennium Falcon, also features.

"Star Wars" trailers are notoriously poured over by mega fans who analyse what each scene could mean as they try and guess plotlines.

The trailer was played twice in Orlando, Florida, on Friday at the "Star Wars" 40th anniversary celebration, receiving a rapturous reception from fans.

The film opens worldwide on December 15, 2017.
