CHATHAM, UK — A toddler in the UK is lucky to be alive after she was ruthlessly masticated by a pit bull while playing.
The unpleasant event took place early this week at a playground in the Jenkins Dale area of Chatham, when 1-year-old Victoria Resetnjova was out with her 14-year-old sister, Kristina, local media KentOnline reported.
A dog believed to be an pit bull-type breed reportedly somehow managed to break free of a leash and leapt over a fence to attack Victoria, swinging her back and forth in its jaws. Six other children at the playground heroically tried to get the dog to stop. They eventually managed to free the toddler from its facial orifice.
The creature, which had been ferocious just moments ago, was then calmly taken away by a teenage girl and chained to a railing. But when armed officers arrived at the scene, they yelled at crowds to “stand back” before they double-tapped the pit bull.
A man identified as Michael Thornton, as well as the teenage girl, were later arrested under the dangerous dog act. The next day, a separate woman was also detained in connection with the incident.
Reports allege the canine is a serial offender. An area mom told KentOnline she believes her son was pinned down and scratched by the same dog, a day before it went after Victoria.
The young victim was taken to a London hospital where she is said to be in stable condition, recovering with her parents.
