YouTube demonetization: Why YouTube is not a news platform — Plane Crashes

2017-04-06 3

YOUTUBE LAND — YouTube caught itself in quite the pickle last month when they had 250 advertisers jump ship after brands complained about having their ads run along offensive content.

Staring at a $750 million-dollar loss and huge PR debacle, YouTube went with the knee jerk reaction and put broad — not well-defined — demonetization policies into place.

Basically, YouTube is demonetizing news stories. By doing so, YouTube is sending the signal that it is not a platform for the dissemination of news.

YouTube has a content sensitivity category for advertisers called “Tragedy and Conflict” … however, YouTube still demonetizes stories despite letting advertisers Opt-In to this content.

Just look at our stories for plane crashes. YouTube is all over the place.

Going forward we’re still going to be covering the news, we’re just going to be a bit more creative with our language.

For any topics too hot for YouTube, you’re going to see a change in jargon … for now.

Let’s be honest, sh...oh wait, that word isn’t YouTube friendly — stuff happens, and when it does, TomoNews will be here to report it.
