China is installing cameras in churches around the country. Officials are saying this is for security purposes and a measure against terrorism.
But Christians in China are outraged. They claimed that there were several cases of churches being destroyed and pastors dragged away if they didn't comply immediately.
Authorities say that the new ruling does not target churches alone, but is intended for all public areas, and said cameras have also been installed in schools and hospitals.
This is not the first time Christians in China feel targeted, though. In Zhejiang, which has one of the largest Christian communities of around 1 million, has had friction with the government before.
In 2014, a campaign that called crosses on top of churches "illegal structures," removed 360 crosses and destroyed one church.
This sparked international outrage, at the time, with people fearing the persecution of the 60 million Christians in China.
