Huge Gustnado Blows Through Midland, Texas

A huge gustnado blew through Midland, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon as a thunderstorm hit the area.

The Midland branch of the National Weather Service had earlier warned that the thunderstorm could bring hail, high winds and rain to the West Texas city. In nearby Odessa, winds whipped up a smaller but dramatic dust devil.

The gustnado, which is formed by winds swirling on the edge of a thunderstorm, alarmed some Midlands resident who mistook the weather phenomenon for a tornado.

This video shows the gustnado forming on the outskirts of Midland.
