News of President Trump’s reported outings to his Virginia golf course over the weekend sent Twitter into a frenzy.
News of President Trump’s two reported outings to his Virginia golf course over the weekend sent Twitter into a frenzy, notes Mediaite.
The first wave of reactions came Saturday when it was revealed that, despite the White House listing the president’s daily activities as meetings, he was spotted at the Trump National Golf Club wearing cleats and a sporty shirt.
Bradd Jaffy, a senior editor and writer for NBC Nightly News, was quick to report on the sighting.
Among his tweets was, “Trump left his golf club after 4 ½ hours, about the amount of time it takes to play a round of golf. Pool was told ‘meetings,’ no more info.”
Not long after, Josh Billinson of the Independent Journal shared a photo showing Trump clearly dressed for the links, setting off a flurry of comments.
The following day, it was a tweet from Fox News that got the crowds typing.
It read, “News Alert: @POTUS spending weekend working at the White House."
That claim was quickly debunked, as the press pool reported Trump was again at his Virginia club conducting meetings, notes The Hill.
Some also wondered why working on a weekend is considered newsworthy.
One person wrote, “1) Even if this were true, why would it be news? 2) Not even true.”
While many believe that presidents deserve some time to relax, regroup, and refresh, President Trump is not historically among them.
When Barack Obama was in office, Trump was a frequent critic of the then-president's golf outings and vacations, reports the Washington Post.
One of Trump’s many tweets on the matter read, “@BarackObama played golf yesterday. Now he heads to a 10 day vacation in Martha's Vineyard. Nice work ethic.”
