Liverpool fans had a familiar hero to cheer on Saturday (March 25), after former captain Steven Gerrard led a Liverpool Legends side to a 4-3 win over their Real Madrid counterparts.

The match was played in front of a packed Anfield to raise money for the LFC Foundation, Liverpool's club charity.

Gerrard was the source of inspiration for the home side, setting up goals for Michael Owen and John Aldridge either side of half-time before winning the penalty that was scored by Robbie Fowler to make it 3-0 midway through the second half.

Gerrard himself finally got on the scoresheet with a well-taken half-volley to give Liverpool a 4-0 lead.

Real, who included former players Luis Figo and Clarence Seedorf in their ranks, finally came to life in the closing ten minutes.

Goals from Colombian Edwin Congo, former Real and Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes and, lastly, Ruben de la Red in the final moments of the game brought the score back to 4-3.
