Republican lawmakers who did not support the GOP’s health care bill to overturn Obamacare may find themselves on a potential Trump administration “s**t list.”
On Friday morning, before the bill was officially pulled, a Daily Beast report stated, based on multiple inside sources, that “the president is angry that his first big legislative push is crumbling before his eyes—and his chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon is advising him to take names and keep a hit list of Republicans who worked for Trumpcare’s defeat.”
The report also quoted one official as saying, “[Bannon] has told the president to keep a s**t list on this. He wants a running tally of [the Republicans] who want to sink this…Not sure if I’d call it an ‘enemies list,’ per se, but I wouldn’t want to be on it.”
Meanwhile, two other insiders are said to have described the administration’s mentality as one of “you’re either with us or against us.”
During an Oval Office press conference about the bill’s failure, President Trump said, “We learned a lot about loyalty, we learned a lot about the vote-getting process…”
However, after he mentioned the different factions within the Republican party, he told reporters, “I’m not gonna speak badly about anyone within the party.”
Trump also dismissed a reporter’s question about a potential betrayal by the House Freedom Caucus, saying, “No, I’m not betrayed. They’re friends of mine. I’m disappointed...I’m a little surprised, to be honest with you.”
On Friday morning, NBC News had estimated at least 34 House Republicans who did not support the bill at the time.
However, Trump speculated they were a lot closer, noting, "We were just probably anywhere from 10 to 15 votes short. Could have even been closer than that. You'll never know because you'll never know how they vote."
