President Trump and Senator Ted Cruz shared a joke on Tuesday about launching U.S. lawmakers into space.
The interaction was caught on video as Trump signed an act which approves $19.5 billion for NASA funding next year, reports Gizmodo.
After the president mentioned the health conditions that astronauts can face as a result of their work, he said, “It’s a pretty tough job.”
Trump then turned to Cruz who co-authored the bill and was present during the signing and said, “I don’t know, Ted, would you like to do it? I don’t think I would.”
Cruz jumped in by suggesting, “You could send Congress to space.”
As the crowd laughed, Trump smiled and said, “What a great idea." The Dallas Morning News is speculating that the NASA funding, which benefits Cruz’s home state of Texas, could be a peace offering to the senator for voting in favor of the health care bill the president has backed.
