A student-produced rocket just shattered a major record. The USC Rocket Propulsion Lab launched the Fathom II in New Mexico. The craft reached a whopping altitude of 144,000 feet; that’s the highest altitude ever reached by an entirely student-made rocket. USC says the Fathom II took three months to develop and manufacture.

The lab is part of an undergraduate program that designs and tests rockets. With this success, the Rocket Propulsion Lab is one step closer to its goal of launching a rocket into space.
