The man caught trespassing on White House grounds last week had reportedly been on the premises for at least 15 minutes before he was captured, reports CNN based on an inside Secret Service source.
According to the news outlet, “The source says Jonathan Tran set off several alarms, but was able to avoid other sensors. The source said ‘the response to the alarm was lacking, and found (the suspect) vulnerabilities in the system.’”
Tran, a 26-year-old was caught near the White House’s South Portico entrance on March 10 while President Trump was inside.
NBC News says that Secret Service agents found him carrying a backpack containing two cans of Mace, “his passport, an Apple laptop, a book written by Trump and the letter to Trump, which reported that he had information about ‘Russian hackers.’”
Once he was placed under arrest, he reportedly told an agent, “...I am a friend of the President. I have an appointment.”
According to CNN, he had been spotted lingering around Pennsylvania Avenue for nearly six hours before the breach and arrest.
The Secret Service is said to have launched a review into the incident.
