Rep. Dave Brat was on CNN a few minutes ago explaining how Trump needs to move forward with the Obamacare replacement bill in order to make the replacement a success
Brat is quickly becoming one of my favorite members of the House.
He points out that right now the regulatory portion of Obamacare is the big fatal flaw and that we need to get rid it.
He concedes that is very hard to do some of this because of the 60 vote hurdle in the Senate. But in his estimation, Trump needs to overcome the 60 vote hurdle in the Senate in the first phase so they can get rid of the regulation portion of Obamacare and can take this back to a more market-centered approach.
Once the regulations are gone, Brat says then we can get rid of the mandates, the tax increases – all of the federal components and block grant it back to the states.
If Trump does that, Brat says it will homerun and Trump won’t be saddled with the same healthcare legacy as Obama.
