You'll never believe how much urine is in public pools

Researchers at the University of Alberta did a study on the amount of urine found in public pools. They tested two different-sized pools for an artificial sweetener called acesulfame potassium (ACE). The sweetener is used as an urinary marker as it can be detected in water with different pH levels and temperatures. Studies found 7.92 gallons of urine in an 110,000 gallon pool and 19.8 gallons in an 220,000 pool. That’s only .000079 percent of the liquid in a community pool. The Centers for Disease Control recommend showering before getting into the water, avoiding swallowing the water, and avoid the pool if you have bowel issues.
